In 2023, Georgina Manning was invited to use Eastcheap Project Space in Letchworth Garden City to continue developing Building a Forest—an evolving project exploring the connection between nature and wellbeing.



Prompted by personal experience and scientific research, the work reflects on how natural environments support mental health, offering calm and grounding in a chaotic world. Manning draws inspiration from the quiet intelligence of forests—once seen as competitive ecosystems, now understood as networks of cooperation and care.

Through walks, participatory installations, and creative activity in natural settings, Building a Forest invites reflection on what we can learn from these hidden systems. It asks how we might create more supportive, empathetic spaces for one another—spaces where all can thrive.
